What is fire-retardant-treated wood?

A pressure treatment process that infuses fire retardant into the cells of the wood, not just the surface. This fire-retardant treatment changes the chemistry of the wood. If the wood is then exposed to high heat, it gives off water and carbon dioxide to slow or stop the spread of flames.
